LST is dedicated to the study, research and development of biological solutions for the problems of sustainable agricultural production. Current Research and Development projects are focused on the Research lines mentioned below:


o Development and evaluation of clean technologies and sustainable practices for agricultural production and environmental conservation, with emphasis on pest management and protection and sustainable crop productivity.
o Development of technological packages for the productivity of pastures in search of reduction of the areas required to secure livestock feed .
o Development of technologies for organic or biological farming based on optimal utilization and conservation of natural resources, preservation of fertility and soil functionality, optimum use of water resources , without use of agrochemicals or genetically modified organisms.
o Development of products for plant protection, selective for the conservation and protection of beneficial predators and parasitoids and products for crop productivity with high influence on the attributes , properties , processes and soil functions in the rizosphere.
o Identification of the biota and micro - biota acting on the nitrogen cycle in soil under different agricultural practices and different nitrogen sources.
o Necessary levels of organic matter in the soil. Evaluation and optimization of composting processes and vermiculture. Humification and organic carbon.
o Evaluation of Vegetal Hedges , Green Manures, mulches grass clippings, in situ decomposition accelerators .
o Biological indicators for monitoring of pollution in the soil , the presence of contaminants such as heavy metals , pathogens , and other plant growth -inhibiting substances
o Technologies for the recovery and protection of the headwaters or springs and watersheds for protection and water regulation.
o Research on factors of important contribution to the ecological footprint of agricultural production in order to minimize impacts and control processes within established ranges and achieve a significant reduction of the ecological footprint of each production process.
